I plan someday to stop working,
not today, but, hopefully not too far off.
Sit on my porch, and watch the sun, clouds,
wind and rain paint miracles across the sky.
Of course it’s part of our culture to retire,
go fishing, play golf and eat peanut butter
and banana sandwiches whenever we like
(take a handful of pills for eating whatever/
whenever we like, too). I, also, want to write;
write words that have the flavor of a juicy apple,
where the dripping sweetness to the last bite
leaves you with the seeds of more to come.
It’s a dream, a hologram of thoughts that spin
like animated dancers in a waltz that may never be.

A wonderful dream..... love peanut butter and banana sandwiches as well...hopefully life takes you where you want to go... :)
Life is meant to be enjoyed. I sense you do take the time to enjoy it...because your words are full if imagery of someone who sees and feels it.
I'll join you in eating a sandwich after our waltz.
I am going to wear red shoes and you?
love it
i've stopped work - but not got the apple yet
that's a beautiful analogy
thanks pat
I love the apple comparison! But I do want pickles with my peanut butter sandwiches instead of bananas :) They say people find it difficult and boring sometimes when retired; I've never enjoyed life more. This was great Pat.
Pat, I give you pat on your back for this simply wonderful post-retirement dream. You have made a clear description of a job that has no retirement age. Good one.
kudos on this one my friend. well done and a nice vision indeed.
a very nice dream...expressed very well too. I hope you will realiae it soon too.
pl visit my blog sometime http://travelnlife.blogspot.com/
Your words already taste like a sweet juicy appple, Pat. You are a true poet.
and what a dream it is! wow!!!
The other American dream?
This a great dream... we all want this. But i have to say I love this line. "flavor of a juicy apple, where the dripping sweetness to the last bite
leaves you with the seeds of more to come". What taste that leaves me with...
too soon, Pat!! you're way too young. now days you need to be 90 or so, right?
Best one let!!!!!!!!!
don't for get to add the pickles to that sandwich :)
I want you to know I had to go eat a pb and banana yesterday! lol.. :)
cheers!
Oh but it will and expectation is the greater part of any experience, lovely poem Pat as always thought prevoking
As one who shares your love of writing and hopes to do more of it in retirement, and how also loves the taste of an apple that is so juicy it makes my beard sticky, all I can say is WOW. Good job Pat.
"I, also, want to write;
write words that have the flavor of a juicy apple,
where the dripping sweetness to the last bite
leaves you with the seeds of more to come."
I want more of your poetry to read...
I think that mny hard days of work accent the wonderfulness of a pure DAY OFF. I am able to retire 2 days a week! P B and J? I'll take sushi and dark chocolate for dessert.
you'll be fine!
Well Pat, I can relate to this one, and I'm still working.
Everything we do in our lives is our work. Even eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
What is the single metaphor or symbol that communicates what your life is all about right now?
this is lovely!
i share the same dream, Pat, but reality keeps biting.. :)
Hi- I already feel you often write "words that have the flavor of a juicy apple." !
(aren't you too young to retire???)
I've missed your blog so much (and many others.)
Glad to see you're still here with more words for me to savor.
Retirement works.
love what you say about writing!
mmmmmm...
Now, why would someone like you want to retire - especially since you obviously live life to the fullest - as evidenced in your magnificent poetry? Wouldn't that be like retiring from life itself? :)
