Took My Breath Away

I’ve struggled with men over a football, struck
dimpled balls on fairways and greens into a hole,
flirted my ass off turning “NO” into yes, Yes, YES!!
Won or lost, it was the challenge I loved most.

But, with this breath-stealing, snot river cold,
there’s no line to cross, no holes to enter,
nothing I can finesse into a positive score.

Suck on these, swallow two gel caps,
sleep for hours, and wake up the same.
Of course, it’s not my first,
I was deflowered as a child (perverted little viral beast).

It’ll have its way with me a few more days, until,
this mucus lusting lothario takes another's breath.

Poor Pat. Sounds like you have it bad. Well, I think you outdid yourself, turning a cold into an art form.
Bravo! Maybe the illness was worth it after all.

And as Polona says, feel better soon!!!

Ooh--I can hear your stuffed-up nose in these lines of soggy verse...a three-hanky tear (and snot)-jerker...
Hope you are back in good health real soon--and stay there for the rest of the winter!

You write well even while suffering. Feel better soon. ("Mucous lusting lothario is not the "green" I wish on anyone, but what a terrific sounding image!)
Belated Happy New Year!

You describe the beast maker with such accurate finesse.

I HATE colds! There's nothing redeeming about them.

They're only about demeaning our spirit, our strength, and our right to breath. However, your writing has remained quite healthy and wonderfully intact.

Get better soon friend.

This is part of that enduring question, who is there to struggle with when it is your own body that seems to be your opponent. You did the only thing one can do, under those unsavory circumstances, write a poem. Great job!
