What We eat

She watches the glass
like I do a favorite TV show.
There’s no channels to change, but
when I feed the fish she licks her paws,
and meows with a pleading whine.
The ultimate optimist, I guess,
but, a fantasy that’ll never happen;
paradise, a quarter inch of glass away,
a formulated, nutritional diet on the floor.

just reach in for your treat ... most things are only and inch away
it is how we perceive it and do we choose to have it. Perhaps kitty was just happy to gaze at what it could have.
I can relate to this ... and so can my cat ... :o)

I have three that do the same and a dog that has been known to bark and wag his tail whilst I'm cleaning out the rabbits-eturnal optamism to be sure

haha, love this, kitty dreams of one day eating sushi......

We had a glass bowl with three of those goldfish you get at the fair by tossing pingpong balls. mom always hated them, because she was the one who ended up feeding and changing the water. but she let them live, because she was to kind hearted to flush them......well after three years of the cat drinking from that bowl, I guess he spotted the fish, we came home from school, and they were all three gone, and the cat was licking his paws.........

Pat Paulk, this poem is awesome. It made me laugh. It also made me think about the things in life we want most but are protected (or held out of reach) by a glass wall. But we always keep hoping and reaching because one day we may be lucky enough to shatter the glass by chance mishap of knocking the tank to the floor or slight turn away of the head by the authority figure feeding the fish.

I'd keep an eye on that dreamer...I've watched lots of cartoons where that fantasy somehow gets fulfilled. :-)

Senile, she gets worse everyday!! I think we'll just deed the house to her and move!!

Don, when they're attached to the claws at the end of the paws, I guess, in a sense they do. Thanks!!

Thank you Kai!!

Thank you Margie!!

MB, it really is a sight!! I've watched her sit next to the tank for over an hour watching them.

Trinitystar, not this cat. When I get ice cream she thinks it's hers. And, gets very indignant about it. Naw, she wants those fish bad.

Sue, you are right!!

Nea, kitty made dreams come true!! Good for kitty, bad for fish. Pretty much like life. Thank you!!

Thank you Polona!!

No Janice, I have Tetras and Golden Barbs, and 2 suckers. All no aggressive.

EP, ain't it the truth. And everytime those authority figures turn their head, I do!! Thank you!!

Vaughn, I hope I'm around when she decides to dive in, that will be entertaining!!

Andrew, ditto to Vaughn's comment!!

Inconsequential, Thanks!!

Floots, she is entertaining and a pain all wrapped in black fur!! Thank you!!

Shikha, thank you!! Try not to do too much heavy...

Tim, it does. Thanks!!

Joyce, she has "grown" on me over many years.
