Family Reunion

His thoughts,
unlike a covey of shot at quail,
will never reunite
under the bramble of wintry hair.

He spends hours
talking to whiney ghosts
hiding under the rockers of his chair,

and often goes to visit
the only child of his parents,
like a brother he never had.

Powerful, but sad.

I like the image of shot at quail unable to reunite (maybe they do reunite, but never as the whole)

somethings just aren't fair from our 'lucid' perspective, but who are we to say the other reality isn't sweeter and more fulfilling than ours? At least that is what I have to believe.

beautiful, haunting, sad

This is chilling, touching, simple, deep, happy, sad, and awe-inspiring --
all at the same time!
I love the last stanza!

Age, at a certain point, seems to be a benefitless chore. Great job on this one. Firebird has said it rightly, you combine a lot of perspectives in a few words.

Thanks Janice!! too short, but I did.

Thanks Sage!! Maybe they're united in a way we can't understand. Being old and having your mind unravel is a sad thing.
