Small Rewards

I sweat dream-drops
into the diamond-tipped dust
of callused hands and concrete alteration.

The sun burned passion into my thirst
causing me to strike the cask of orange stone
many times without speaking a word.

I may not cross the waters into Canaan,
march around Jericho and topple walls, but
the job is done, and I can sleep in, in the morning.

You have arrived back with much aplomb Pat...minus the dirt and sweat I hope LOL. As usual your imagery is excellent - another job well done!

It always feels good to complete something. Your reward: all the beers you cann drink between now and Sunday pm.

you've captured what it feels like to put yourself into a job and complete it with satisfaction. Nicely done Pat. Glad you are home. Hope you were able to sleep in... such a sinful luxury. You deserve it.

That not really small, that's it for me, big, what I look for everyday: a satisfying activity and a well deserved rest. I like the light tone of your poem.

Love that first line, Pat.
Vibrant images.
(I noticed long before now you're profession in your profile.)

Glad to see you back with a bang!

Hope you slept tight!

Just a guess, you must of been down on the Gulf Coast or in NOLA working in that heat and humidity.

Crossing Canaan, tumbling the walls of Jericho, nice lines. Enjoy a cool one.

this made my day. truly inspirational yet not over-reaching. small triumphs should be appreciated much more than the big ones, for they are the building blocks for it. thank you for sharing. as usual, exquisite imagery and flow.
