Tale Of A Leaf

The shadow wagged
like the tail of a dog;
the semblance ended
with the movement.
The one expresses gratitude
for a stroking hand,
or something to eat; the other
was clearing out a space
in a crowded place to die.

that brought up an image of, not of a leaf, but of a homeless person. Someone wanting what a dog is given, food and a caress, does this make sense? I don't know why i had that feeling....

You've been out raking leaves again, haven't you! I love your poems that come from everyday moments, Pat. Such moments are all we have, after all.

I really like this poem Pat!
Wonderful!
No leaves here though...
just lots and lots of snow!
I wish I could be inspired to write a poem about shoveling snow...
but, I do not think it would work too well!
Hope you're having a great Sunday!

Margie

Nice one. Like the "death" theme emerging here too.

Thanks Kai!!

Thanks Janice!! I know it's a little different.

Corey, not exactly what I had in mind, but that's the wonderful thing about poetry is it should be open for various interpretations. I like yours!!

Thanks Polona!! I looked out the window, surveying all the leaves I had to mow, and saw one hanging on a tree making a shadow that reminded me of a dog's tale wagging. doesn't take much to entertain me.

MB, as my poem today describes, I don't rake leaves. But, I was out in the middle of them causing all kinds of havoc. You are right, it's all we have. Thank you!!

Thanks Margie!! I did, my daughter and her family came over, had a great time.

Thanks Nobody/SB!! It tis the end result of Fall.

Ann, I'm sorry. Sometimes I get a touch of reality, I guess.

Thanks Andrew!!

Vaughn, some of the places were literally heavy with leaves!!

Thanks Cathy!!

I read it so many times to take into its essence.

Wandering mind.

A crowded place to die-it reminds me of a battle field-the complexities of nature in paralell
