Dark And Spotless

Somebody pin-popped the Sun
like a fat yellow balloon,
strewing pieces on leaves
already heavy with Fall,
over chain link dividers
of who-mows-what, and
a large piece covered
the granite-grey stubble
of our child-scratchy cul-de-sac.
A mailbox, two houses down,
slowly chewed up a shred
hanging from its mouth;
the lady next door brought one home
smoothly pasted to the side of her SUV.
Shadow-maids in long nightshirts
picked up and cleaned ‘til the end of dusk,
leaving everything dark and spotless.

You reconstruct our world with your poetic vision with sureness and care! We live in a more beautiful place when we see it through your eyes. You are following a great tradition with your unique vision.

I also liked "who-mows-what" and "dark and spotless". You conjured up for me a big water balloon of light splattering across the world.

I like the shadow maids. Like milk-maids milking out the daylight.

Who said that elegance, irreverence, and wit couldn't flow from the same well? Nice one Pat.

I have put your blog to my links with a hope that it is not offensive.

Andrew, looking out in the woods behind the house it looked like an explosion of yellow patches everywhere. I picked a balloon because it was lighter and more fun than a big bang explosion.

Thanks Floots!! Don't want to cut 1 more blade of grass than I have to!!

WOW!! Russell, your comment is more poetic than the poem. Thank you!!

Shyamalee, thank you!!I am honored that you have added my blog to your links. Thank you!

Margie, thank you!!

Karasu, it would be X rated! Not a good idea!!

MB, I love water balloon fights!! I always lose, or win. The destinction gets lost in the wet clothes. Thank you!!

Polona, I love your repetitiveness!!

Wows are good!! Thank you Kai!!

C, thank you!! I was really thinking about french maids, but that didn't seem to fit.

Thank you Don!! Irreverant I've been accused of before, not the others!!

Vaughn, then all of my replies, apply!!

Cathy, a beautiful sunny day with patches of sunlight interspersed with shadows in the trees. I spelled it out more in my reply to Andrew above. Thank you!!
