Friday’s Affairs

The sky is sad-gray today,
I guess it's
anticipating a storm.

Garage door repairman
fixed in fifteen minutes
what I spent four hours cussing.

Garbage cans line the cul-de-sac,
like green-hated gossips,
anxiously divulging the week’s trashy tales.

I heard a new moon is rising tonight,
I’ll send up a howl,
let it echo in dark craters for you.

The more I sit with this somewhat moody poem, the more I see how it ties together, that last howl reverberating through title and the other stanzas in anticipation before it busts loose at the end. Nicely done! Love the gossips, and especially that last line.

Dear Pat, I hope your mood lifts up soon. I love that dramatic howl at the end! Can almost hear it all the way from Singapore! Hee ! Hee!

Howwwwwoooooo! Oh, and how appropriate that it is also the Autumn equinox.

Garage doors are a pain. Then you lose the clicky thingy and it's another cussing day.

i like your dark side, pat. these lines, in particular, resonate with me in a sinister, paranoid kind of way: garbage cans line the cul-de-sac / like green-hated gossips / anxiously divulging the week’s trashy tales. ha!

Wow Pat! My mind emptied faster than a buckshot beer can - this poem encapsulates the novel I'm writing. There are some outstanding images here.

Resonates for me too. Something hopeful about the moonrise. Good one!

you know this "new moon" has a lot of significance in Indian context.. its the beginning of Navaratree (the nine nights) of festive mood. Just the beginning of Friday affair....
well said Pat...

Don't think I'll see the sun --- to many storms and tornadoes! :)

you sound like a refreshing creativity that rises above the moon within the benign uniformity of s u b u r b i a.
Howl some more - and get out to the country...the coyotes are calling!

I like this one Pat!
Love the ending!

Funny isn't it, how four hours of cussing just can't seem to fix a garage door. haha

Like my lawn mower, I got a new one, but it doesn't cut any better than the old one sitting in the shed.......

I like how you express the dark mood. I had the same feeling this Friday.

Nice slice of life!

Love this, Pat, esp the howl ending. Perfect close.

(and people worry about me when I write my dark ones , too. I just tell them I'm the Patsy Cline of poetry;-)

MB, it was a Monday on Friday. glad you liked the last line!!

Mikailah, I hope that's a good way of thinking...

Medusa, I was fine. I looked at the gray sky and it just looked like it was sad because of incoming rain. But I do look at things weirdly. I howled loud enough!!

Janice, we have coyotes that roam behind the house here. Just as soon not call them up, though. You can probably carry a tune better than me!!

Polona, that was me, not a wounded animal. 15 minutes and $305.00 later it got fixed. I should've gotten kissed. Somebody's getting a piece of my mind tomorrow.

Thanks Vaughn!!

C, yeah you got to keep up with the clicky things in life!!

Karasu, that's cause I'm the one they're usually talking about. Thank you!!

Thanks Russell!! That sounds like a lot of bad days in a row...

Floots, I've been called much worse by my last wife. Thank you!!

Don I did, but I was too late. Always this week.

Steve, you bet there was!!

Amalendu, thanks for telling me that. It was definitely a festive howl!!

Dsnake, other than being robbed by the repairman, life is good!!
Everything is back to push button convenience.

Thanks Jon Cox!!

Andrew we're getting what's left of what ya'll had. Not too bad. Four kids tomorrow, you are a brave soul!!

Nina, thank you. I try not to run with the coyotes too many nights in a row. Not good at my age.

Thank you Margie!!

Nea, I keep thinking one day I'll learn that lesson.

Natalia, thank you!! Hope your Friday ended better.

Thanks Joyce!!

Pris, sometimes it's better to swim in the dark, so you can't see what's swimming with you. Sounds good anyway. thank you!!

Not unlike Robinson Crusoe's Friday. One must love it. In spite of it all. Like life in the mudflats. Appreciate it from a position of A Metaphysical Clown - my new blog!:)
